He said me haffi work, work, work, work, work, work. (Rihanna, 2016)
I decided that I have to have more on my blog than just my patterns. Otherwise, I won’t be blogging that often 😅 So let me tell you what I’ve been doing with my time…as I am obviously not writing the patterns, I’m always thinking about 🙈

I’ve been working at my “day job” 😅
For almost 10 years, my mom and I have been running our yarnstore Handverkskúnst. I call the store my 4th baby cause it takes a lot of time and work to build up a company. Luckily, I really love spending time at work, like I really love spending time with my 3 actual children.

Earlier this month, we finally started the process to expand our store. I think expanding is the right word – we’re getting more space. For a few years, the space behind our store has been empty and not in use. The owners weren’t sure what they planned to do with this space it was a part of a much larger space that was also just empty. We inquired about the space regularly, and finally, they decided that they were willing to let us have it.

This month, we finally got access to the new space. As you can see on the photos, it’s pretty raw. But raw is just good as it is meant to be our new stock room. Our current stock room is way too small for all the yarn and has been in complete caos for a while 🥲

The moving process is going slowly as I am the only one moving things around. I thought to myself that others might get help and move everything in one sitting. But I’m not doing that. Maybe it’s logical, or maybe it’s just because I’m too controlling and want things to be done “the right way.”
I don’t have the whole new space fully planned out. I have to see how things fit in the space before I can completely make up my mind on how I want to arrange things.

The stock room is arranged by a system that I like, and thankfully, mom likes it too 😅 it’s super simple, really, but it’s harder to explain in words. Each brand is in the same area, DROPS yarn is in one area, Permin yarn is in another area, and Scheepjes yarn has its own room. The DROPS yarn is then arranged by weight, type, color (yes, color, not number), and finally, dye lot and time of arrival.

I did get my boyfriend Christo to help me move the BIG shelves. When we moved the store to our current location 6 years ago, I moved all the shelves and put them all up myself, and to be honest, I don’t know how I did it.
It also didn’t help that the lights were turned off when we just started, and we couldn’t turn it on again as the electricity in the new stock room is still connected to the space next door.

Like I said, we got access to the new space earlier this month. Yesterday was the first time we unboxed a DROPS shipment in the new stockroom 🎉
This is obviously still a work in progress. I need to buy more shelves so I can keep moving the yarn from the old stock room. The photos in this blog show mostly just the biggest room of our new stock room, the whole area is actually 3 rooms.
Luckily, like I said, I love this. Arranging yarn is one of my favorite things to do at work. And this is that on steroids.

This is it for now. I have to go to work and arrange more yarn.
Until next time. Elín 😊
