Rósagull crochet shawl – free pattern

You can buy this pattern as a printable pdf file on Etsy and Ravelry.

Rósagull is Icelandic and translates directly as rose gold. The Icelandic word for rose gold is actually Rauðagull which translates directly as red gold.

Anywho, Rósagull the first shawl pattern I ever created back in 2018. I had a lot of fun creating the pattern and have always been proud of how well it turned out.

I took the shawl with me to Denmark when it was finished and my cousin Sunneva was willing to be a model for me. It was totally unplanned that her hair matched the shawl. We took the photos in some kind of a tunnel, close to an old church and a park in Copenhagen. It was a great day and we had the best time.

Materials:

Yarn: Fingering/4 ply, 845-850 meters or 924-930 yards.
The shawl is the picture is crocheted with merino sock hand dyed wool from Dottir Dyeworks, color Antique.

Crochet hook: 3,5 mm, or the size needed to get the right gauge.

Gauge: 23 dc stitches = 10 cm or 4 inches, before blocking.

Size: Lenght 170 cm or 70 inches, height 50 cm or 20 inches height, after blocking.

Pattern notes:

  • The shawl is worked in rows. Starting in the smaller end with a few stitches.
  • Ch 3 in the beg of rows always count as 1 dc.
  • If multiples stitches are to be made in the same stitch it is notes, otherwise 2 dc means that you make 1 dc in the next 2 stitches.
  • Some rows start with ch 1 and then hdc, this ch 1 is never counted as a stitch and never worked in.
  • Stitches that are grouped together with [brackets] are to be made all in the same stitch
  • Repetitions are grouped together with * asterisks *.

Detailed explanations of stitches:

Twisted single crochet

Twisted sc’s are brilliant. They are almost the same as regular sc’s, apart from this one thing – a twist.

Insert the hook in the stitch to be worked, yarn over, draw back through stitch, now you have 2 loops on your hook, it’s best to have them a little loose, turn your hook in a full 360° circle, doesn’t matter which way, now the 2 loops on the hook have a twist, yarn over, draw back through both loops. And you have made a twisted sc.

If you find that it is to difficult to draw back through the loops after you twist them they are to tight, loosen them up a bit before you twist them and the drawn back should go smoother.

dc2tog – decrease – double crochet 2 together :

Yarn over, insert hook in the stitch to be worked, yarn over, draw back through stitch, now you have 3 loops on your hook, yarn over, draw back through first 2 loops only, yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, draw back through stitch, now you have 4 loops on your hook, yarn over, draw back through first 2 loops only, yarn over, draw back through last 3 loops on hook.
